Tanzania is one of Africa’s best birding destinations. It has one of the most abundant species lists of any African country: over 1,100, of which over 800 species are resident, and nearly 200 are regular migrants. There are 22 species endemic to Tanzania, and a further 43 near-endemic. Migrants are present from November to April.

Itinerary

Day 1 - 2Parrot Bushcamp

After some shopping in Arusha with a picnic lunch, you will be driven to Parrot Campsite; the campsite is adopted by having different bird species around. Watch out for the yellow-collared lovebird, and the rufous-tailed weaver and ashy starling which are endemic to the dry savannah of north-central Tanzania.

From our bush camp, you can see the Stocking-thighed Ostrich, the Kori Bustard, a smaller group of hornbills, and Helmeted Guineafowl.

Day 3 - 4Ngorongoro (Ndutu areas)

Driving through the Ngorongoro Highlands towards the Ngorongoro Conservation area, with a spectacular Crater view, on the way to Ngorongoro Ndutu area with game viewing.

A pleasant atmosphere for bird photography, Ndutu has white and Abdim’s storks around the lake which is breathtaking to witness at dawn and dusk each day. At Ndutu you can also spot the Fischer’s Lovebirds, the endemic Grey-breasted Spurfowl, Bush birds such as Blue-capped Cordon-blue, Green-winged Pytilia, Beautiful Sunbird, White-crowned Shrike, and Slate-colored Boubou.

Day 5:Ngorongoro – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast drive to the endless plains of the Serengeti caching the different species of birds in the Serengeti Plain.

Serengeti is a massive wilderness of 14500 square km, where every day brings a new landscape and a new adventure. Serengeti is famous for its significant migration and chances of seeing the Big 5 and other games.

Day 6Serengeti National Park

Serengeti is home to the Lilac-breasted roller and the endangered Grey-rumped spurfowl, Fischer’s lovebird, and the babbler-like Rufous-tailed weaver.

The Serengeti is also home to the honeyguide which lives in a symbiotic relationship with the Rattle (Honey Badger) as it leads the Rattle to beehives.

Day 7Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater

Early morning game drive at Serengeti viewing Today you will be driven back to Ngorongoro Conservation Area with your picnic lunch and game en route

Day 8Ngorongoro Crater

With over 500 species recorded, Ngorongoro offers excellent birding. Among the birds to be seen are white-eyed slaty flycatcher, Livingstone turaco Ostrich, Kori bustard, crowned crane, the secretary bird and migratory birds which are present from November to April. There are also some specialized grassland birds that are resident in the crater.

After breakfast drive to Arusha National Park with picnic lunch for a game drive, late afternoon drive to Kilimanjaro International Airport for departure.
